So I was looking for a new AV Receiver and I noticed Fry's had the model I was looking for, the price for the AV Receiver $999.99. I called around before making my purchase, a local competitor - Brandsmart had the same receiver for 689.99. Since there was a Fry's right by job, I called that Fry's to see if they could match Brandsmart price. Here is how the convo went:
Me: Hello I'm looking for the Onkyo 806, do you carry that?
Sales Guy: Hold on lemme check
Me: Okay
Sales Guy: Yea we got it
Me: How much are you selling it for?
Sales Guy: 999.99
Me: Well I saw the same receiver at one of your competitors Brandsmart for cheaper. What is your price matching policy?
Sales Guy: Why don't you just buy it from Brandsmart
Me: huh?
Sales Guy: Why don't you just buy it form Brandsmart
Me: ohh you guys don't price match
Sales Guy: Yea but why don't you just buy it form Brandsmart
Me: Um..ohh okay
Sales Guy: click
Does Fry's management frown on doing the price matching? Or was the guy being a complete douche for no reason? -

If you went into fry's and asked for it with the price match they do have to give it to you as long as you either have said stores current ad or you can have the salesperson call said store to confirm the price. If the salesperson doesn't want to do the price match you may have to ask for his supervisor>manager>person in charge (hopefully it wouldn't go that far) and one of them is going to do it. They have to and if they dont they are breaking the policy. In which case you could ask for a copy of the policy lol. Sounds like fry's got a bad deal or has them way marked up. -

Actually that sounds about right. Brandsmart absolutely slaughters Fry's in relation to Audio/Video equipment. Why? Because Brandsmart specializes in one or two different brands in relation to products. Less competition of brand names in the store reduces prices for them. I have run into stuff like this before for Computers Department. Brandsmart only sells HP Printers. That said, they are 15% lower in price Fry's. It's hard.Why is there an S in Lisp? -

The sales guy didn't want to price match it because when he does, he loses his commission. It's a pretty stupid policy if you ask me. I have to go through 15minutes of extra work for nothing? Screw that. I usually ask customers to buy it first and then go to returns to have them match it there. Everyone wins. -

Lol yeah "MIC" now. Yep I would agree to just go to best buy if your after a price match because they are cool about it. Fry's being a private company with most policy's barely enforced... customers should expect trouble with stuff like that to be honest. Owell they figure it all out in time for themselves -

It is usually never ever worth it to try and do a price match, I tried so many times to speed up the process for the customer, but just gave it to the supes, takes like half an hour. However thier Low Price gurantee for AFTEr you buy something is very easy to use. I think its like if you buy something from frys and it goes on sale after you buy it, they will give you 110% of the differnece back, vs say if best buy just put that gps you bought on sale , frys will give you the same differnece amount in price back, not an extra 10% on top of it.

At store 34, they just implemented price matching for the past 5-6 weeks or so. I'm a cashier and it usually takes me ~30-40 minutes to help a customer do a price match. Most of the times, the difference is only $3-10. It's inefficient and unsatisfactory-prone. -

Price Matching is Fry's way of screwing over sales staff.
Scenario: Customer wishes to price match $100 Monster cables to $50 from website.com
Step 1: Salesperson must go to website.com, put the item in the cart, and proceed to checkout on a computer built in 1992 with Windows 98/128mb ram/etc. (5 mins)
Step 2: Salesperson must print out competitors price ad and show DSC for approval. 5 mins (Store 10 components and computer department has broken printers, so salesperson must go to another department podium to print out ad. 15 minutes due to repeating step 1)
Step 3: Gross profit is <30%! Requires ASM/SM Approval (30 minutes if lucky)
Step 4: Wait for ASM/SM to password approval at returns location for print out. ( 10 mins )
Step 5: Salesperson lost 30 mins to 1 hour of life for $0 commission.
Side notes:
-Store still made $30 in profit, but 100% of commission was taken away from salesperson as punishment.
-Salesperson lost GP, making goal of 30,000 GP a week effectively harder
Conclusion
PRICE MATCHING IS SET UP TO LOOK GOOD TO CUSTOMERS, BUT MADE TO SCREW OVER SALES STAFF
... dont even get me started on working for free (5 hour schematic working while working 34.50 hours... 1/8th of time working is illegally unpaid for. Draw system is put in to fire employee, not help employee) -

I hate the price matching policy. As a salesperson I'm not out parading the fact that we price match because it takes money out of my wallet. But the LP girls up front hand out fliers that go over the whole policy to each and every customer that comes into the store with a grin from ear to ear and it costs us some pretty serious money, for example taking an 18 dollar commission down to 0 (couldn't add a PSC for a customer from Iowa) for me just earlier today after I had used my time helping a customer and while I got the laptop from the cage he price matched on a smartphone. I don't mind the company wanting to price things competitively, but I don't appreciate it being done at my expense and feeling like my time was wasted. -

Well in selfish speaking, I can say it is a waste of time for commission-based employee at Fry's; however, put yourself in the boots of buying something, you always want to settle not only a same good deal but also a better deal. Everybody want to match price at certain stores for certain reason such as return policy, warranty compliance and also mail-in-rebate options. Commission-based gives fair-play working environment, but it kills when the salesman started to lie to sale game. Too bad, Fry's return policy is so easy that you earn nothing once the customer is unhappy with the value with the purchase. -

Price Matching is a gimmick. I KNOW there are some who will, but I will not hunt someone down for a price match that takes 30+mins to complete, or is invalid because the identical model doesn't have the exact serial number assigned to it. I'd rather get in, and get out.
I will have to say that Frys prices HAVE been coming more inline on some items with online retailers over the past year or so. I STILL prefer to buy online 90% of the time because of past nightmare experiences at Frys and they've used up all the "second chances" I'm willing to give them. -
Forget price matching. Here is a faster way to save money:
1. Purchase the product at Frys.
2. Find the same one online for cheaper and buy it, and receive it.
3. Return the original product you purchased at Frys.
Tip: don't waste your time to save $1. -

I really don't mind buying the product at Fry's and then going to the Return Desk to get the Price Match. A Win-Win situation for the salesman and the buyer. My big gripe about Fry's in general, is their "dress code". Seeing all these guys, of all ages, wandering around in ill-fitting white shirts, that look like they've been slept in, wrinkled, and, without undershirts.... really ---- wearing a white dress shirt --without-- an undershirt.... I love going to Fry's, but hate having to deal with anybody who works there. Worst staff of any place I've ever been to. Now that I know it screws the salesman to go in and ask for a price match, I have a great reason to go there and do it. Thanks asdf! -

If a customer asks for a price match, just send them to the supervisor, since they have to do the price match anyway. Even if you have to do it yourself, it only usually takes a few minutes. It is annoying, but not as bad as people make it out to be. It is more annoying for the supervisors. They not only have to password it but apparently they have to fill out a bunch of paperwork for each one. -

I find Pricematching a to be a waste of time for the salesman. The salesman loses all commission on the item, and has to go through the long tedious process of doing it, when he could be trying to sell something that actually makes him money. Frys really should stop advertising this. It doesn't help anyone at all.

Don't get me wrong, I feel bad for a salesperson that loses commission, however they can shut the fuck up and get a better job if they don't like a policy of their employer. In my case I like to shop at local places, rather than online or distant as hell physical retailers, and Fry's is on my route home from work. Microcenter is two and a half hour drive from my home, and Fry's is not only on the way home from my work, but a mere 20 minutes away. Microcenter has CPU deals that are INSANELY low and only available in-store, I could give a crap less about price matching for >$5-10, but for something like $40, yeah I'm not going to travel two hours just to get that, especially when Fry's is a hop, skip, and a jump away and has this policy of theirs. -

Frys electronics suck! I found an item i needed online from another retailer. I called Frys to see if they had the item and how much. They told me they had 10 of them left but it was 10 dollars more than the other competitor but they price match at 110 percent. She told me it would actually be 20 dollars cheaper at Frys as long as i bring in the ad. I go to Frys and found the item and waited about 20 minutes inline to pay for it. When i got to the register she tells me that the brand, exact specs are the same but the number is slightly different. I ask to speak to a manager and the manager 1 saids the same thing, i ask to speak to her manager and that manager 2 tells me the same thing and she had a i really dont give a shit attitude. i explain to her that i had drove out of my way to get this because their person on the phone told me this item was here and that they price matched. She did go online and tried to find it online and ended up asking her boss who confirmed this was the same product advertised at the other retailer and he agreed to match it. She manager 2 does not qualify for the 110 percent and does not give me it but does price match it. I am then told that i have to go back in line to check out. WTF? I tell her i already waited in that line but she really didnt give a shit, it was like she was punishing me for getting the item priced matched. By now its about an hour worth of Frys bullshit and i personally had enough, i tell her im not buying it and was going to leave. All of a sudden she saids she can have someone assist me in paying for it without having to wait. I should of just left without buying the damm thing. They should not advertise ad matching when clearly they really dont want to. I will never be back, EVER! Worst customer service -

After reading this I decided to go into the store and ask for a price match. I wanted to buy the RCA ANT751 outdoor antenna for my TV. It was $79 in store at Fry's and $49 everywhere on line. I printed off my "cart" from Newegg, went into Fry's, grabbed the antenna off the shelf, went to the counter and asked if they would price match. They looked it up on their computers to verify and they matched it. It was great. They did it right there. I think it helps to go into the store. Also, it has to be a reputable source for the online price. Good luck. -

I think internet price matching has helped most stores. As long as the store isn't rejecting customers for lame reasons. But then there are the crybabies who want unreasonable things like matching without shipping included (when applicable).

Many online stores have brick and mortar sites you can pick the item up at, and save the shipping (ever hear of site-to-store?).
Why would Frys only match price+shipping, when they are not shipping the item? Just another instance of a dueshe bag move on Frys part. Profit first, customers and employees last.

If you had read my post you would have noticed how I said that Fry's matches the price including shipping when applicable. Most companies do not offer site to store since they have no stores. If there is shipping, Fry's matches it including shipping. If there isn't a charge for shipping Fry's matches it without shipping.
As far as the "haggling" concerning Obi-Wan's post. A person can walk in and get the item they want without waiting 7-10 days. Regardless of what you think most people would rather not wait to get it in the mail. And if there is a problem with the item, there is a store ready to assist in any needed returns. -

Honestly, as someone who worked that shithole for 5 years before moving on, if you ever want to return something and not deal with as much of a hassle, go either first thing in the morning, or after lunch, like 1:30-2pm on a weekday. Both of those times, 99% of the time you'll be in and out in 5-10 minutes, which is on average about how long it takes me to return something at most other stores.

The fact that you can even GET commission gives you better wages than any other minimum wage worker. In this economy, you should at least be lucky that you have a source of income. Period.
I lost my job, and it's been impossible to get another one in this economy. I've applied to Fry's 3 times already to no avail. But hey, if you don't want your job, let me have it, and then you don't have to complain that you can't get commission. If not, then get over yourself. -

Are you reading my entire posts? I'm not changing anything. You even quoted my own words perfectly. To surmise my last 2 posts, when there is applicable shipping in a situation where the company does not offer site to store, the shipping price will be matched. If there is NO SHIPPING offered by the company Fry's will match the price WITHOUT SHIPPING. As I said most COMPANIES (not stores) do not offer site to store (you should actually read my posts). You know like Amazon, Buy.com, Bhphotovideo.com, among all online only retailers. I have an issue with a few more of your points in the last post above.
- When did I say that Fry's does more business than their online competitors? (Maybe you are reading my posts but are you comprehending them?)
- Ask a random 100 people if they pay the same price for online and in store, most would not want to wait for shipped items. (That is a statement made in theory, not a statement that Fry's does more business than websites)
- We impatient children would rather get our stuff up and running right now, for the same price. (Again most people don't live in their mother's basement repairing computers for a living)
- I have never had to return anything to Fry's for being defective. I've built 4 computers, bought 3 TV's, and pretty much my entire collection of home entertainment equipment. And I did it for cheaper than I ever could have at the time online. Most of the stuff was new but some of it had been opened. Hell 1 of the TV's was a DISPLAY for half off. Guest: There's no reason any worker should be complaining.
Oh no! You don't get commission?????? Guess what, you still get PAID. You have a JOB (An entry level one at that). The fact that you can even GET commission gives you better wages than any other minimum wage worker. In this economy, you should at least be lucky that you have a source of income. Period.
I lost my job, and it's been impossible to get another one in this economy. I've applied to Fry's 3 times already to no avail. But hey, if you don't want your job, let me have it, and then you don't have to complain that you can't get commission. If not, then get over yourself.
Are you retarded? How does not getting any commission = getting paid? You do realize commission only means no base hourly pay right? So, lets recap. Sell a bunch of stuff that gets you no commission = you don't get paid! -

Best Buy: - When did I say that Fry's does more business than their online competitors? (Maybe you are reading my posts but are you comprehending them?)
- Ask a random 100 people if they pay the same price for online and in store, most would not want to wait for shipped items. (That is a statement made in theory, not a statement that Fry's does more business than websites)
- We impatient children would rather get our stuff up and running right now, for the same price. (Again most people don't live in their mother's basement repairing computers for a living)
- I have never had to return anything to Fry's for being defective. I've built 4 computers, bought 3 TV's, and pretty much my entire collection of home entertainment equipment. And I did it for cheaper than I ever could have at the time online. Most of the stuff was new but some of it had been opened. Hell 1 of the TV's was a DISPLAY for half off. Too bad I couldn't pay more to wait for it to be delivered to my impatient childish self.

1) Gee, "most" does not mean more? I guess you have a newer dictionary than I do.
2) Best candidates for living in mamas basement would prolly be a Fry's employee. Pretty hard to afford rent on what Fry's pays.
3) Building 3 whole computers hardly makes you an expert on Fry's return/failure rate. Build a couple more, and you might be concidered a novice.

If I remember right Fry's pays a decent hourly rate for their floor sales. I would have been grateful making $14+ and hour when I was a kid. Sure beats McDonalds! I can see complaining about losing a commision if that was your only income! 90% of the Sales staff at Fry's are punks! Unless I like the salesmen/women who actually help me. I toss their sales slip in the trash before checkout. Just like any customer service orientated position. If you want a TIP or Commision... You got to deserve it! Just wait until you step into the real world of business and employment. You better thicken your skin! -
