"Prizes"? the settlement in any legal action isn't a "prize". Last time I heard that expression used was when the company I worked for helped shut down a fraudulent doctor/lawyer setup that advertized how workers' comp claimants could "claim their prize".

I used the word prize because I thought it would be more accurate.

It's a prize because you certainly wouldn't have taken the time to sue them.

You don't want to upgrade your graphics card.... I mean like you haven't already since you've noticed it wasn't HDCP capable.

I don't know if the prize are worth it. I would prefer real cash so I can buy an Nvidia card.

I have had zero problems with Vista. No crashes, etc. Add into that the added security, especially Bitlocker. I've found that most of the people that claim that Vista is bad, haven't used it for any length of time.

ok hook up your old printer to it or use xp programs on it or for that matter see what it does on a virtual system. I have been around it since the day it came out and ever since then I havn't found anything I liked about it except ink ball using a stylus and the fact you can do a recursive search for drivers. However as a technician and IT admin it has driven me nuts to no end trying to get it to recognize specialized software built for xp (zero backwards compatibility) trying to get it to play nice on networks with 2k3 servers and linux domain servers vista in all cases except an over sized bloated internet browser with typing capability that is poorly programmed tends to break alot and does not play nice with anything that isnt built to its specifications. So as an IT admin vista is about as useful as programming modern stuff using a first gen Fortran card punch machine. Remember since I have been in the tech field since before it came out I have experienced many of its issues and shortfalls first hand infact it isnt a few short falls infact it has so many short falls i would say it is simply one big long fall and I dont think I would be stretching it too far to say you cant see the bottom of that fall either. Now if you are simply using vista as your grandma would i.e. browsing the internet and sending a few pictures through email you will never ever see all of its glorious ability to drive you nuts. I would much rather use an old hpux system than vista. (old unix made by hp hpux)Looking for my head ............... yeah the eight valve one yeah ....

also how can one be so incompetent to program something that needs 2ghz of processing power and a minimum of 2 gb of memory to simply run. Its an os it is supposed to take up as little power as possible and the security stuff i dare anyone with vista to type in porn.ru and browse around the russian websites and then tell me windows security held up. all windows security does is hold you up and give you a false sense of security.Looking for my head ............... yeah the eight valve one yeah ....

Suzuki - FWIW, I helped beta test Windows 95, and have participated in beta programs since. I've worked in/worked with IT since the mid-90's. Every OS, including Mac OSX and Linux, has it's issues and problems.

As you noted, "certain specialized software built for xp" has it's problems. The key is "built for xp". The problem is with the software developer, not Vista.
To use an example from a different thread, did you know that you can't upgrade most Sony craptops from their version of Vista Home Premium to Vistal Ultimate? They've written their drivers to be specific to their version of Vista Home Premium. Who's fault is that? Not Microsoft's (I easily upgraded my wife's Dell laptop and my Gateway to Vista Ultimate, and am running Windows 7 RC on my laptop).

As to the driver issue you indicated, again, who's fault is that? I learned long a go to purchase hardware (peripherals - printers, scanners, etc) from manufacturers that keep their drivers up to date. However, Epson provided many drivers for Vista "out of the box" and provided updates for some of their older hardware (mostly scanners) on or shortly after Vista's release.

Like I said, I've found that the majority of people who complain about Vista either haven't used it for any length of time, don't know what they're doing, or don't know what they're talking about (this applies mostly to PC World magazine).

yes and sony is another one of those stupid companies. Now if I wanted to work with a program specifically made for centos 4 on centos 5.3 i would be able to make it work heck if i wanted to run the program on fedora it would work. As you said it is the software developer that makes the software so microsoft programed vista so that it was not very compatible with older versions. the reason they did that was to force people to upgrade their software and that didnt work so they immediately released a ton of patches for so far one of the worst major os' in history. now back to sony bashing because they really are just floating on their name they dont program their drivers to not be compatible the drivers are programmed by the chip manufacturers they program their driver installation wrappers to make sure nothing was modified on the laptop because they sell the same laptop with the upgrade for more than it costs to do the upgrade yourself even with a legal five thousand dollar copy of vista premium. Also how can you say something is good when there is tons of data saying it isn't such as os popularity charts.

Hey, we agree on one thing - Sony is a dirty four letter word.

BTW, back to the original topic, FWIW, I'd take an ATi card over nVidia any day. nVidia has had some major driver problems with Vista, and now it seems that they can't even get it right for Apple.

also Ati is a better chip than nvidia but if your arnt using the spawn of 'microsoft' nvidia drivers are more compatible and friendly. if you use linux its about 50 50 between ati and nvidia.Looking for my head ............... yeah the eight valve one yeah ....

Just scrolling down, Suzukiman has it (him) for Sony. Whatever happened to you with Sony, is yours.

Do us a favor, and throw your old WALKMAN away. I bet you have one with a cassette even.

Trinitron, 40 " CRT., Incredible XBR, and High end camcorders.

Suzkiman, I bet you are not in the total field of Consumer Eletronics, with regards to SONY.

You seem to have a bit of knowledge, but you lack a bit of sensibility. Like an old Fry's employee, you were misguided and now jillted by a HUGE company that made your sales. (You Never, ever, told a customer, BUY SONY... THE BEST" I bet you did.

IMHO, Sony products are over-hyped, over-priced, and average quality. Their laptops are often castrated - meaning that many of their models will only run THEIR version of Windows 7 (usually Home Premium) and can't be upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. Their Vista-based laptops had the same issues.

As to their other products, they don't impress me. Like I said, over-priced, over-hyped and of average quality. You're paying for a name brand that used to have some clout behind it.
