I was fired almost 1 year ago, and honestly even though I am earning a few hundred dollars less I am the happiest I have ever been since working for this hell hole. So I will give some advice on how to stick it to fry's if you ever get fired for a job that you worked so hard at and showed up everyday for.
Heres a quick background on me, 19 year old who went into fry's not knowing shit about computers, or at least knowing the bare basics, to a 20 year old that was promoted to computer sales that challenged himself to keep on learning and learning about product releases and company quality, until I eventually became the "Ohh that foo is the smartest guy in the dept." person (which ultimately cost me greatly in sales), Honestly I was a middle of the pack-to lower of the pack (mostly middle, never last) salesman, but honestly I was happy with that stature and I would always do my schematics and go backs, unlike the other green diggers (who are the reason the company is worthless now) who only cared about money... I would help people down the aisles and just bring that friendly youth attitude to the store... and then I was eventually fired over some BS, the smartest, friendliest, and most professional guy in the Dept. was fired over a "sexual slander" in which i did not make. How many of you can remotely relate to my story??.

But anyways heres some tips that I had to learn on my own after a 5 Day
-Do not ever sign any documentation given to you
_Understand your Fry's career is over
-Understand that if you were fired over a BS reason it honestly means that you were too good for frys as a human being
    -Begin Job Hunting
=Apply for unemployment, dont EVER EVER EVER feel you are a burden on taxes, its your duty, and you would not collect it if Fry's wasnt the Devil disguised in a MicroChip
-Gather up your facts, such as attendance records, awards, secret shoppers vists and be prepared for the eventual appeal by Fry's trying to block your hard earned unemployment compensation.

when Fry's blocked my unemployment I was summoned to court, I did my research on the EDD website as to what qualified for unemployment compensation if you were terminated... and believe me I caught Fry's with a filthy left hook the back of the dome because I actually did my research..

In my case they sent the dept #2 manager and ASM to my unemployment hearing with a judge, and they were absolutely clueless as to what to say, like typical zombies who enslave themselves to the Fry's way of life... they said how I was a bad employee to customers and blah blah blah.. and they showed up with all the documentation they had collected over the years, and believe me they brought out all the stupid ass 90 day probations salespeople would get for not getting stupid goals like frys cards and etc.

after i had a chance to explain myself the judge was partially neutral... and then i brought out my secret weapon, a dagger in my opponent like a Kobe 3, I brought out my paystub that I earned a $50 bonus on for having a "100% secret shopper visit".. only 6 weeks earlier,.. the dept 2 Manager and the ASM had a look of shock over their face to which they could not recover, and ohh boy was that glourious..

Epilogue, I won my courts case, collected unemployment for 4 weeks, found a job, moved on with my life, continued going to school.. So I leave you with my story, DO NOT ROLL OVER TO FRYS, DO YOUR RESEARCH, NO MATTER HOW BIG THEY ARE... WITH THE RIGHT WEAPONS YOU CAN WIN.

So what do you do if you don't have any documentation on how good of an employee you were?

You're kind screwed without any documentation. Unless you can provide either affidavits or third party witnesses, you're basically SOL.

I didn't have any documentation or any of the letters or 100% secret shopper things and I still got unemployment. Just be truthful during the telephone interview to get unemployment.

Two people got 5 dayed at my store today over total BS reasons. They think they are coming back after the five days, but Frys took their employee badge and escorted them out, so I'm not sure. This has got to be the most underhanded and evil company I have ever worked for. Frys uses up their employees and throws them away like garbage which is really sad.
I feel especially bad for the younger ones that have never held jobs before and are experiencing their first taste of business at FRYS. If you feel like you are being taken advantage of stand up and fight back. If you are asked to do something you are not comfortable with, just say No! Frys is counting on the fact that most people are not familiar with the labor laws or their rights as employees. Did Frys make you work 18 hours on Black Friday? That was illegal. Did they then alter your time card so they did not have to pay overtime? They committed a crime and should be held accountable. Yes, Frys IS corrupt and should be put out of business.

You're correct that Fry's is banking on the fact that most employees either don't know the labor laws, or don't have the stones to take them on (hint....class actions with valid/verifiable documentation of employer work).

Fry's basically treats the customer in a similar manner. They'll try and foist on you their PSC (which is basically worthless), take forever to do repairs, and when they do fix something, they usually have broken something else. There's a reason that Fry's receipts are down.

Honestly for in store repairs, it's not the people in service who are screwing the customer, it's Fry's archaic ways of handling things. I cringed whenever a laptop came in that was an older model and needed a major part (mobo, inverter, lcd, etc) cause I knew that it would be a minimum of two to three weeks before an ordered part would get in, plus the time to repair and test. And if we were towards the end of the week or quarter, forget about it. The manager in a futile attempt to save not only our pay, but his would have us drop everything we were working on and focus on anything that equaled instant money. And now that PSC account for a fraction of our income compared to when I left three years ago, it's gotten even worse. Your no longer a tech, your a salesman trying to sell over priced services to the customer. When I left virus removal was close to 200 bucks, OS install with drivers was 100, 70 if the drivers came pre-loaded, 35 if the restore was built in and all we had to do was hit f9, set it and forget it.

As for 5 days, Obiwan is right. They are banking that you don't know how labor laws and unemployment work and will try to get you to sign that VQ form. I remember when I came back from having my first shoulder surgery and I was cleared for full time work, turned in all my paperwork and fry's was still only giving me two days a week. I called up the unemployment office, explained my situation and filed for partial unemployment to make up the difference. A week later the store manager came running out asking what I was doing and claiming they had no clue I was fully cleared, throwing the Sup 1 under the bus saying he never told them when I know for a fact he did cause I was there when he turned in my paperwork to the SM.

Main thing you need to know if you work at Fry's

If they fire you for performance reasons (like not selling enough Fry's Cards or PSC's) you qualify for unemployment. You just need need to show you were a good worker that was on time and rarely ever missed a day. If they fire you just because you couldn't reach their goals they owe you unemployment. Fry's knows that and no matter what they say will not fire you for sales in most cases. They will look to make you miserable or put you in another department until you quit first.

It's been pointed out before, and needs to be reiterated. If Fry's fires you after your 5 day, don't...DO NOT sign anything - espectially their VQ (voluntarily quit) form. The reason - by signing that away, you've signed away your ability to possibly collect unemployment. If Fry's (or any employer) fires you, and your denied unemployment benefits, you can contest that denial and request a hearing before an administrative law judge.

The SM didn't give me anything to sign and just handed me my last paycheck. What's the deal? I got terminated just for helping out another employee. I was close to reaching my one year at that hell hole and to qualify for a pay vacation -- and they terminate me. Should I contact home office to see if the SM just screwed me or it's probably too late now? How long do you get for filing for unemployment?

Consider yourself fortunate. Look elsewhere. You yourself have referred to Fry's as a hellhole (which it is). Why would you want to go back to working for them? File for unemployment now and start looking.

If you get fired for a "BS" reason....count yourself lucky. There IS a better job around the corner, and if any business fires employees for "BS" reasons....it's not some place you want to work for in the first place.
Hint: At most "good" jobs....you don't have to "qualify" for vacation....it's just given to you your first year.
