    Dell and Gateway are sh*tty? Since when? Since Michael Dell came back, Dell's QC has improved. Same goes for Gateway. FWIW, I''ve used Gateway computers since the early 1990's and never had an issue with them. I'd imagine you think Sony and HP are good brands, or a Frys' "custom-built"?

    I'm interested as to WHY you think Dell and Gateway are bad? ...And what you thing a "good" computer manufacturer is?  
     
    I know and work with a number of IT people that own newer Dells and/or Gateways and are extremely happy with them. If you check Best Buy's website, many Dell and Gateway laptops and desktops have four and five star ratings by customers. Yes...there are lemons from each, but when the buyers of these units give them good ratings, that speaks volumes.

    Here's the fix for the long new customer add... Always keep 2 POS screens open on the terminal. Go ahead and make your quote.. If customer's # is in the system, Great! If not, open the other pos screen on the computer and create the customer there.. While that is creating, you can switch over to the other POS screen and enter the customer's phone number.. It should pop up, while the other one is still going store to store creating a new customer.  
     
    That being said, it is a pain in the rear.. but as long as you can open 2 pos screens on the same terminal, you are set. I just wish they'd batch create them at the end of the night for the other stores... or just have a seperate machine dedicated to doing it..

    Bottom line is all these fucking stores are the same. Everywhere has bullshit service and bullshit managment. It all depends on what you make of it. Frys has a lot of good deals when you get down to the bottom line.

    If you were to research this issue properly, you'd find that it will be Dell techs providing the service. Not Walmart employees. Based on this article from InformationWeek, it's being test run in the Dallas area. Given the apparent high volume of Dell sales that WalMart has, they're filling a need.  
     
    I'd rather trust my computer to a Dell tech at WalMart, than one of the alledged tech's at Fry's.

    1) Untrained Employees - Employees are litterly just thrown out on the sales floor with no prooper training other than some stupid videos about not touching other employees boobs or penis. I HAVE TAKEN MANY CLASSES IN COLLEGE FOR COMPUTER TRAINING. SOME EMPLOYEES KNOW MORE THAN OTHERS  
    2) A lot of items are not in stock or not properly stocked. THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOU HAVE SEVERAL THOUSAND CUSTOMERS COME TO A STORE.  
    3) Unfriendly associates, who are very un-familiar with the products and just care about making their commision. THEY HAVE FAMILIES TO FEED, AND NOT ALL ARE ASSHOLES  
    4) Many employees do not speak very good english HAHA WTF?! MANY OR A FEW?  
    5) Rude Management AGAIN, IT DEPENDS ON THE PERSON.  
    6) The Fry's Card and its benifits suck, no rewards and it only gives you 0% APR on very high profit items for the store. ITS A STORE, THEIR JOB IS TO MAKE MONEY, NOT PLEASE EVERYONE. YOU'D DO THE SAME IF YOU OWNED THE STORE  
    7) Fry's treats its customers and employees like theifs with every purchase. FOR THE SIMPLE FACT THAT MANY EMPLOYEES STOLE BEFORE.  
    8) Employees asking you over and over for help just so they can make some money off of you. THEY HAVE FAMILIES TO FEED, AND THIS IS A BETTER OPTION OTHER THAN SELLING DRUGS.  
    9) The service warranties and other services they sell you are over priced and not necessary, the employees make alot of money off these items. SOME ARE NECESSARY AND HELP OUT A LOT. EMPLOYEES ONLY MAKE 15% OF THE COST AND AGAIN, THEY HAVE FAMILIES TO FEED.  
    10) They underpay their employees and over work them NOW THEY UNDERPAY THEM? SHOW ME A JOB THAT WILL PAY ME $500+ WEEKLY WITH A FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE AND NO COLLEGE DEGREE.  
    11) They don't match their employees 401k contribution IM PART TIME.  
    12) They have promised their employees $1M Dollar retirement plan if they stick around for more than 15 years, but no one has ever gotten it that I know. THAT YOU KNOW  
    13) Many alternative stores offerr same pricing or lower than Fry's without paying their employees commission. BUT MOST OF THEIR EMPLOYEES KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT A PRODUCT. IF YOU CAN FIND IT CHEAPER SOMEWHERE ELSE, BUY IT THERE.  
    14) Its very hard to take advantage of any Fry's Warranty's due to many things not being covered and service employees giving you the run around. IF YOU BREAK IT, WHY SHOULD WE COVER IT. WE COVER WEAR AND TEAR.  
    15) Research the internet and you will find many websites like this one where employees and customers complain about the retailer. EVERY RETAIL STORE HAS PEOPLE THAT HATE IT.  
    16) Fry's reputation with the BBB is not good BIG BLACK BITCH?  
    17) Bait and switch operations IT SUCKS, BUT THE STORE NEEDS TO MAKE MONEY.  
    18) Misleading customers with false prices and specs in the ads and saying Fry's isn't resposnible , I mean come on who has as many typos and false prices more than Fry's. ILL AGREE WITH YOU ON THIS ONE. :face-monkey:  
    19) Employees move up in the company based on who they know and their relationship not on their knowledge or how long they have worked for the company. HAPPENS AT MOST COMPANIES.  
    20) No employee discounts in the cafe and no discounts on sale items. THE STORE IS LOSING MONEY ON SOME SALE ITEMS, WHY SHOULD THEY GO EVEN LOWER?  
    21) Employees lie about specs, return policy and what the warranty covers just to close a sale. AGAIN, EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT, NOT ALL LIE.  
    22) Managers threaten employees about their jobs if they don't push Fry's Cards, Warranties, Wireless Installs and other services. THE STORE NEEDS TO MAKE MONEY, YOU BECOME A MANAGER AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DONT PUSH YOUR EMPLOYEES.  
    23) The Fry's credit card application has security flaws some of which saves your credit and personal info so another applicant can see it using "Auto-Fill" and a big security flaw which allows anyone to press the back button upon approval/denial of their application to access the previous persons personal information including Name, Address, SSN# and any credit card info you submited for credit verificaiton. DOESNT WORK AT MY STORE  
    24) Fry's doesn't hire extra help during the holiday season instead they make employees work 16-20 hour shifts. SO WHAT? THEY PAY YOU FOR IT.  
    25) The employees are required to stock the store at night even if it means working longer hours than you are scheduled to work. LEGALLY THEY CAN DO THIS AS LONG AS THEY PAY YOU FOR IT.  
    26) No overnight stocking crew - thats why alot of stuff isn't stocked or in the right spot. ILL GIVE YOU THIS ONE.  
    27) Employees are hardly ever thanked for their work only when they are doing bad or need to be written up. ILL GIVE YOU THIS ONE TOO.  
    28) No company discounts with companys like Sprint, AT&T, Verizon or Bally's or other Corporate Company. SO WHAT? JUST BECAUSE OTHERS DO IT DOESNT MEAN FRYS HAS TO. FRYS GIVES YOU 50% OFF OF YOUR BILL IF YOU SIGN UP WITH HELIO.  
    29) A open door policy which is very uncomfortable to use. ILL GIVE YOU THIS ONE TOO.  
    30) Unfresh food in the cafe and mostly microwaved. ILL ALSO GIVE YOU THIS ONE. I WOULDNT MIND MICROWAVED FOOD, BUT THE PRICES MAKE THE FOOD APPEAR AS IF IT IS FRESH.  
    31) Bad selection/Unhealthy selection of snacks and food in the employee room and vending machines. MANY PRODUCTS ON THE SHELVES ARE HEALTHY. DONT PURCHASE FROM THE VENDING MACHINES.  
    32) I have never officially seen anyone clean, scrub and sanitize the bathrooms. THEN YOU MUST BE CONSTIPATED. OUR RESTROOMS ARE CLEANED HOURLY.  
    33) Intoxicated/Druggie Employes HAPPENS AT MANY PLACES TOO.  
    34) Fry's hires the weirdest employees YEAH, THEY HIRED YOU.  
    35) 30 Minutes to wait in line to return something ON WEEKENDS WHEN ITS BUSY. ON WEEKDAYS ITS A 0 MINUTE WAIT LINE IDIOT.  
    36) Not enough employees in the Service Department and long lines and hassles. ILL GIVE YOU THIS ONE.  
    37) Employees have to go online to express their problems because they are affraid of retaliation from their supervisors. NOT ENTIRELY TRUE. I KNOW I CAN SPEAK TO MY SUPERVISORS WHEN THE NEED ARISES.  
    38) No Human Resources department only Audit and ther are a pain to deal with. HR DEPARTMENT WOULD BE THE SAME AS AUDIT.  
    39) Employee paychecks are messed up missing commision or hours. LEARN HOW TO CLOCK IN IDIOT.  
    40) The cashiers don't know what they are doing most of the time and take more time than normal with problems. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. STOP STEREOTYPING.  
    41) Great service starts from the top which includes department managers, store managers and home office and the owners. HAHA WTF??  
    42) If employees are not happy they are less likely to give good service. TRUE. IM HAPPY, I GIVE GREAT SERVICE.  
    43) Internal conflict of interest (Supervisors & Employees dating each other) SHIT HAPPENS EVERYWHERE.  
    44) Many CAL OSHA Violations including pallets on the floor. TRUE.  
    45) Many of the brands Fry's has are bad quality and do not always work properly: AirLink, GQ, BTC, Emprex. THOSE BRANDS ARE PRIVATELY OWNED.  
    46) Fry's does not carry all brands only ones that make them the most money, they don't carry ViZio, Asus PC's, Kodak Printers etc BECAUSE THEY DONT MAKE MONEY IDIOT. IF YOU HAD A JOB THAT DIDNT PAY YOU, WOULD YOU CONTINUE WORKING THERE? YOU ARE STUPID AS CAN BE.  
    47) Fry's made a mistake by forcing employees to use a draw system then removed it and fired all the employees that were in the draw. Shows how much they care. THEY DIDNT FIRE ANYONE AT MY STORE.  
    48) No janitors to clean or take care of the store instead they use cashiers. WE HAVE SEVERAL JANITORS.  
    49) Cashiers are required to do cart runs MANY OTHER STORES SUCH AS RALPHS DO THIS TOO. YOU WANT THE CARTS TO RETURN THEMSELVES BACK?? LOL YOU MUST BE AN IDIOT.  
    50) Employees who work in receving have to work in hot conditions with no air conditioning. THEY HAVE AC AT MY STORE.  
    51) Vandilism in the parking lot and LP not helping. LP'S DONT HAVE EYES IN THE BACK OF THEIR HEADS.  
    52) Open box products have a small 5% discount but usually have something wrong or missing from them. USUALLY??? HOW ABOUT RARELY.  
    53) Refurbished or Remanufactured items, Fry's has alot and they usually have problems and or missing parts. SORRY, WRONG AGAIN.  
    54) Fry's warranties don't cover software, user error , physical damage and theft while some others company's do. THEN GO WORK FOR THOSE COMPANIES.  
    55) Unreliable Point Of Sale system that crashes and doesn't work most of the time. ILL GIVE YOU THAT ONE.  
    56) Fry's is very un eco-friendly they use thousands of sheets of paper on quotes and receipts. ILL GIVE YOU THIS ONE TOO.  
    57) Customer soda machines are cheaper than Employee soda machines. NO, OUR SODA MACHINES ARE FOR CUSTOMERS AND EMPLOYEES. AND IF THE CUSTOMERS ARE CHEAPER, PURCHSE A SODA THERE IDIOT.  
    58) High Employee Turnover (Employees getting fired or quitting) ALL RETAIL STORES HAVE THIS PROBLEM IDIOT.  
    59) Boring weekly training (V-Con) THEN FIND ANOTHER JOB IDIOT.  
    60) Employees having to paint, clean the inside out side of the store. ITS A TASK, DO IT IDIOT.  
    61) No reimbursment on uniforms. ILL GIVE YOU THAT ONE.  
    62) Uncomfortable uniforms for working in isles, downstocking and doing schematics. IM COMFORTABLE.  
    63) No organization in the whare house. LEARN HOW TO SPELL IDIOT.  
    64) It takes forever to find someone to help you get products for the customer in the warehouse. FOREVER ISNT A NUMBER IDIOT.  
    65) Demos dont' always work ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE 100% OF THE HUNDREDS OF DEMOS IN THE STORE TO WORK AT THE SAME TIME. CUSTOMERS FUCK EM UP IDIOT.  
    66) Buying demos aren't always complete NO SHIT, THEY ARE PURCHASED AS IT IDIOT.  
    67) Buying a used or demo unit is only 5%-10% off the regular price. DEPENDS ON SUPERVISOR. IVE SEEN DEMOS GO FOR 50% OFF.  
    68) Not Properly trained management. DEPENDS ON THE COACH.  
    69) So hard to get to a live person and not a operator on the phone. OPERATOR AND LIVE PEOPLE ARE THE SAME THING. FRYS IS ONE OF THE LAST COMPANIES THAT OFFER LIVE PEOPLE TO ANSWER PHONES. TARGET, K MART, ETC ALL HAVE MACHINES THAT ANSWER IDIOT.  
    70) 15 Day/30 Day Return Policy's - Walmart, Costco and SamsClub offer up to 90 days return policy. THEN GO PURCHASE FROM THEIR STORES IDIOT.  
    71) Your looking for an item and ask an employee they point somewhere or redirect you to the wrong place. DEPENDS ON EMPLOYEE IDIOT. NOT EVERYONE DOES THAT.  
    72) Sale items aren't always available or in stock. AGAIN, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE WHEN YOU HAVE TO ATTEND THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS.  
    73) If they replace your item under the warranty they won't replace it based on cost they will replace it with somethign similar. WTF?  
    74) Defective software/movies are non returnable even though the manufacturer does offer refunds on it. OF COURSE NON RETURNABLE, BUT WE WILL INSTANT EXCHANGE IT IDIOT.  
    75) No reciept on a return = 20 minutes and a big head and a store credit only. OBVIOUSLY, WE HAVE TO LOOK UP THE PURCHASE IDIOT.  
    76) They never call you back if you have a raincheck on a item you have to chase them down. THEY DONT ASK TO BE CALLED BACK. CUSTOMER USUALLY CALL BACK IDIOT.  
    77) Fry's tells you to deal with the manufacturer if you don't get a rebate and there is nothing they can do. THEIR REALLY ISNT ANYTHING FRYS CAN DO. THE MANUFACTURER HAS THE REBATES, NOT FRYS IDIOT.  
    78) You have to print out your own rebates online now, what if you have no printer? Or your not computer savy THEN YOU ARENT PART OF THE 21ST CENTURY IDIOT.  
    79) The line to pay sometimes can be very long and can lead to several hours if the system is down. SOMETIMES, JUST LIKE EVERY STORE IDIOT.  
    80) You have to be treated like a theif at the door: they check your reciept and purchases before you leave. THANKS TO OTHER EMPLOYEES AND CUSTOMERS THAT STEAL IDIOT.  
    81) You can usually see sales people fighting over sales and talking about commision on the sales floor and even in front of customers. DEPENDS ON EMPLOYEE IDIOT.  
    82) Employees talk in other languages amongest themself instead of english. YOU ARE A SUPERVISOR, WRITE THEM UP IDIOT.  
    83) Employees eating and drinking on the sales floor very rude. HAHAHAHHA WE DO THIS ALL THE TIME.  
    84) Unclean and unprofessional grooming standards. DEPENDS ON THE PERSON. MOST PEOPLE AT MY STORE ARE CLEAN.  
    85) Mistakes on prices and specs and some time they won't honor the features on prices listed on the signs. ILL GIVE YOU THAT ONE.  
    86) Employee pictures are sometimes cycled and used even if they don't work there anymore and employee wall of shame. WALL OF SHAME? WTF?  
    87) Employees stealing from the store is very common and you usually here about it, if the employees were happy they wouldn't steal. LOL SERIOUSLY? WTF? PEOPLE WILL STEAL REGARDLESS IDIOT.  
    88) Fry's does not match some small stores like ComputerEdge etc. I DONT KNOW ABOUT THIS ONE.  
    89) In order for a price match to happen the other store must have the item in stock and available or else you will not get the price match. ILL GIVE YOU THIS ONE, I THINK ITS BULLSHIT.  
    90) Fry's does not honor competitors mail in rebates or store rebates. SO WHAT? THEN SHOP AT THE STORES THAT DO IDIOT.  
    91) On sales days its very hard to find help or sales associates. BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF CUSTOMERS THAT NEED TO BE HELPED IDIOT.  
    92) Employees stack warranties, wireless installs, upgrades and installations to make money without telling the customer. NO, WE ALWAYS ASK CUSTOMER. AND THE CUSTOMER CAN REMOVE ALL THESE ADD-ONS AT REGISTER IDIOT.  
    93) Employees lie about the included warranty from the manufacturer some products come with up to 3 years manufacturers warranty and employees say its only 90 days. SOME EMPLOYEES NOT ALL. AND WE OFFER A FULL WARRANTY, NOT LIMITED.  
    94) Fry's credit card can not be used anywhere but Fry's limiting its use. ITS A STORE CREDIT CARD IDIOT.  
    95) Warranty prices compared to other retailers is very high. THEN BUY THE RETAILERS IDIOT.  
    96) Pushy sales people WE ARE COMMISSIONED, WE HAVE FAMILIES TO FEED. I BET YOU WERE PUSHY TO IDIOT.  
    97) Fry's uses alot of electricity in its stores and does not conserve power. HAHA OKAY YOU PUSSY ASS TREE HUGGER, GO BUY A PRIUS.  
    98) Restrooms may be closed or not accessible because of loss prevention trying to capture someone stealing. The is very inconvienent. SORRY, BUT FRYS TRIES HARD TO KEEP ITS PRICES DOWN. IM SURE YOU WEAR DIAPERS, YOU SHOULDNT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS.

    In the corporate world, there are very few choices - Dell, HP, maybe Toshiba for laptops. FWIW, Dell's QC has improved dramatically over the past year. There was a span of about three years (2004-07) where their desktop workstations and laptops kept crapping out. The firm I work for switched from Dell to HP because of that.  
     
    The reality is that Dell's current product offerings are quite good. I'm interested - what would YOU recommend in place of Dell, and why?

    I own nothing but Dell laptops in my house. However, I do not own the consumer brands (Inspiron). I only buy the business models (Precision and Latitudes). The consumer brands aren't built well and have problems. The business models are rock stable and have lasted me many years.  
     
    I haven't read anything about why people don't like them. The only thing I have seen is that they suck. Explain why they suck.  
     
    I have owned Sony (both a laptop and Desktop) and the hardware in the Sony wasn't that great. The laptop felt fragile. It was a good laptop and desktop at the time, but I wouldn't buy another one because of the small form factor of the laptop. The desktop was hard to work on and the design was ridiculous. That doesn't make them suck, it just means that I wouldn't buy another one because it doesn't fit my lifestyle of banging shit around and replacing parts on my own.  
     
    Dell techs are hit or miss, I would agree with that, but I am my own tech (certified) and do all of my own repairs. Some of the guys that I have met are really good and some are not. Kind of like Fry's employees.  
     
    So, what computers do you all suggest since you are hell-bent on hating a certain brand!?! If you talk to enough people, everything sucks and at the same time, everything is awesome.

    I got about half-way through the list and couldn't read it anymore. Some of the things you have to say, unfortunately, are true. However, I would like to point out that if you're going to complain about the poor qualities of the employees, it would help to check your spelling and grammar beforehand. That said, I'd like to point out that some of the things you have to say are store-specific, some are generic and applicable to every retail environment, and some truly are accurate. From personal experience, I know that there are times when I have been unhappy with my job. That's going to happen with any job, though, and yeah, I get over it and go to work the next day. No matter what your job is, there's going to be stuff that you don't like. It's human nature to complain. Now, the legitimate complaints, like health and safety violations, those are things that should ideally be brought to a higher authority. By the way, I completely agree with #34, though I don't think it really should be there. After all, I'm a weird employee, and I'd like to think that doesnt make me a bad person.The only thing worse than ignorance is stupidity.

    By the way, I have found that most of the really good employees are the ones who take possession of what they are selling. I am constantly checking up on what I am responsible for, because I know someone will come along and mess it up. If we had a night-side stocking crew, I'd never know where half my stuff went in between when I left for the day to my next shift. It's bad enough to watch a customer come along and tear apart several hours of hard work. If it were an employee, I would have to seriously contemplate maiming people for messing up my stuff. And with the P.O.S. crapping out, yeah, it sucks. Do you think I like it? Do cashiers like writing manuals? Do salesmen like writing manual quotes? No! No one likes it when the system goes down. Shut up and deal, or go somewhere else.  
     
    With price matching, I don't think you understand. The purpose is to provide a customer with incentive to come here first, rather than go to other stores. So, of course no one will match a price if the store with the ad is sold out. If you can't get it elsewhere, there's no incentive to shop with us rather than just get a rain check from them. And speaking of rain checks, I have two comments: 1) if you bother to get a rain-check, you have to call the store for a stock check. Thanks to recent identity-theft precautions, it no longer displays anything other than a name on a quote, so how are we supposed to contact you? And, 2) no, we will never offer rain checks on another store's ad, on a hot item that is limit 1 per customer and never on ad (things like the Wii), or anything you just happen to want. If we have it, we can find a way for you to get it, but I'm not bending over backwards for someone just because they drove five miles to get to the store. I drive further than that just to get there every day, and before you start saying I get compensated with a paycheck, note that the least I have paid to fill up my tank in the last three months is almost $60.00. One of my co-workers gets up a 5 a.m. to be at the store by 7, and he still doesn't make it on time every day.The only thing worse than ignorance is stupidity.

    Best Buy doesnt have good prices and they carry shitty computer brands like Dell, Gateway, and Asus.  
    You do NOT want to buy electronics on ebay, and Wal Mart cant possibly compare to the selection of electronics they have. Try finding a wacom tablet at Wal Mart hah.

    obi in the corporate world there is only one laptop that should ever be considered it is the IBM thinkpad yes its a little on the old side but they dont die lenovo I do beilieve is about the same in quality but they are trying to add color to the black box and are loosing the thinkpad feel.Looking for my head ............... yeah the eight valve one yeah ....
