    I just got hired a few weeks ago. I am in computer accessory sales. I want to be a supervisor. What are the ranks? How much is the typical pay (per year) per rank? How would you rate each position by difficulty? How would you rate the pay per rank? I heard that all positions are not created equal?

    You've got a road ahead of you. There's a lot of steps in between Accessory Sales and Sales Supervisor. You'll have to go through Tele-Sales, Customer Service Sales, Sales, and Management Trainee before being a Supervisor.  
     
    Current pay is somewhere around:  
    $10/hr for tele-sales  
    $13/hr for Customer Service Sales  
    Minimum Wage + Commission for Sales and Management Trainee  
    $8/hr + Commission for Supervisor  
     
    And no, not all positions are created equal, not even all supervisor positions. Higher ranking supervisors have much more responsibility than lower sup positions, and also gather higher pay for that responsibility.

    I heard a few people get positioned where ever they like once they become a supervisor. Someone told me that the department manager went from the bottom to the top in no time. Another supervisor went from the bottom to the second highest position in the same department. I don't really understand this. You're making it sound like it takes more work than it really is. My friend who is a cashier told me people get promoted to supervisor all the time. They have like 10 supervisors in their department. Please explain? What is this commission that supervisors get? I thought when you are a supervisor you did not need to sell. I hate selling and I want to avoid the sales position as much as possible. Many of the sales people tell me they have a lot of quotas they must hit.

    It can take shorter or longer depending on where you are in what department. But it generally isn't an overnight process. There's a lot to learn about being a sales supervisor and it takes a great deal of time.

    That's true. Customer Service Supervisors get promoted faster because of higher turnover. Most dont' stay with Fry's long, or if they do, they move to the sales floor. The positions are rather low paying compared to the sales floor.

    You get paid based on how well your area of the store does. This means the more product (in general) that flows out of your area, the more you get paid. This is your incentive to set schematics, educate your salesmen, order products, and merchandise well. It's a great incentive and really makes most supervisors work hard if they want to earn more money.

    It should be. Like I said, you can be in the right place at the right time and move faster than others, but in general you should see at least most of those steps (mainly sales and Management Trainee).

    So now I need an incentive to be a supervisor. What is their typical pay per year per rank? How can they control their commission when the store is slow? And now I see why my supervisor stresses about the schematics always being done and perfect. When I close I have to do other peoples schematics which sucks because some isle are a mess!

    Their pay is variable, and cannot be quantified simply. It varies by store and department, then by rank in that department.  
     
    They can control their commission when the store is slow by merchandising items that make the store money, which will in turn make them money. They can place orders for items that move, and prepare well for busier seasons. They can make sure their clearance is signed so that it moves without dropping in price too fast to hurt them later. They can make sure their schematics are set and their new items are properly displayed.  
     
    You have many other things to worry about before finding incentive to become a supervisor, and as an accessory sales, you can use your time to watch them and learn from them on how to merchandise and manage their time (and yours) to have a positive effect on the store. Selling is something supervisors still do, even though they're not required to. Customer service is the #1 goal of Fry's, because making a repeat customer will help you out for years to come, whereas careless and nonexistant customer service will lose many customers. Then you have no one to buy your products that pays your paycheck.

    To be honest the only SUP positions that make money are SUP 1, 2 and maybe 3. Depending on the amount of refurbs and printer promotions that are happening....

    In the computer department, yes. Sup 4 and 5 are a nice steady paycheck though.  
     
    In A/V, Software, and Components, all the sup positions pay decent. A/T is a different story though...
