Asuses SUCK thank god they dont carry them.

Best Buy doesnt have good prices and they carry shitty computer brands like Dell, Gateway, and Asus.
You do NOT want to buy electronics on ebay, and Wal Mart cant possibly compare to the selection of electronics they have. Try finding a wacom tablet at Wal Mart hah.

Half of these reasons don't even apply to some stores I'm sure.
Defiantly all don't apply to San Marcos.

Lol, OP edited one of his posts, stating he's/she's from the San Marcos store, changed it to "Southern California". Lame.
Can't slip that under my nose!
I'm just curious who you are.
What department at least? if you were from AT or even AV, I don't really know who's who in those departments.

Add this reason to your list:

101) Fry's fired me for creating this website (http://www.FrysForum.com) where employees could talk about their work related conditions and grievances. We were trying to bring our work related grievances to the attention of management. Fry's found out I was the owner of the website and decided to hold me countable for the content of the site.

According to Section 230 of Title 47 of the United States Code (47 USC § 230) site owners or operators can not be held responsible for the content left by members on their site. I did not post or write the things Fry's is accusing me of doing listed on the links below. Fry's firing me was illegal and violates the National Labor Relations Act because 2 or more employees were discussing pay or other work related issues with each other and 2 or more employees are addressing their employer about improving their working conditions or pay.

I have filed a charge with the National Labor Relations Board which is part of the United States Goverment http://www.NLRB.gov Fry's has not responded to my charge.

I was also denied unemployment benifits because according to the California Unemployment office I was "making disparaging remarks about your employeer" even though it wasn't me making the disparaging remarks but some users on the site. I am appealing this decision and I await my court date with the EDD.

Time to rebuff some of these.. :)

boycott_frys: 100 Reason why you should not shop or work at Fry's Electronics Retail Stores

1) Untrained Employees - Employees are litterly just thrown out on the sales floor with no prooper training other than some stupid videos about not touching other employees boobs or penis.

*** and other electronics stores have better training? But the training session is terrible and I dont see why they need to train everyone at register.. I have never used it.. if they asked me now to use it I would have no clue. For the most part it is basically a Minimum wage job.. Everywhere I have worked so far as not had much training to begin with.

2) A lot of items are not in stock or not properly stocked.
*** And if you come in to the store 15 minutes before we close on the last day of an ad.. You probably will not find the ad piece you are looking for, but who is to blame for that? But I have not seen it too bad for stuff not on ad.. atleast the common products.

3) Unfriendly associates, who are very un-familiar with the products and just care about making their commision.
*** That is why you don't ask the "top sales people" for help.. Not everyone is like that..although You cannot expect anyone to be familiar with every product we sell and you cannot expect someone to stand there for 30 minutes to explain a KVM switch because it does not take that long to explain, and if you cannot grasp it in 3 minutes, you probably should not be buying one to begin with. And no I cannot help you find a cable that does not exist..

4) Many employees do not speak very good english
*** That is an overstatement.. Most employees where I work speak very good english.. though there are a few that work in receiving that don't and others just have a bad accent.. But most do speak good english.. though there is a few that don't but you can also normally find help if you don't speak english.. which is a good thing for people visiting from other countries.

6) The Fry's Card and its benifits suck, no rewards and it only gives you 0% APR on very high profit items for the store.
*** Apparently you have not checked all the laptops.. there are a few "unprofitable" HP ones on the list. or do you expect to get 0% on that usb cable? But well it does help if you buy something that is on the list, if not.. don't get the card. and BTW it is cheaper than other store cards.. Cheaper than Best Buy's store card and Best Buy's VISA/MC has high interest rates for being a visa/mc though they do have better 0% financing i believe.

7) Fry's treats its customers and employees like theifs with every purchase.
*** so good you mention it twice..

8) Employees asking you over and over for help just so they can make some money off of you.
*** and when you cannot get help, you complain.. what is it? do you want help or not??? and why is it bad that sales people make money off of you? We help you, you help us.. but well you just need to stay away from those that lie. ;) All of us are not liars. and if you are just grabbing stuff off the shelf and we ask you to give you a quote... who would you rather get the money? Fry's or the employees? well I know some shouldn't get it.. but I'm sure you can find a decent sales person there.

9) The service warranties and other services they sell you are over priced and not necessary, the employees make alot of money off these items.
*** Would you like for us to give them to you for free? Apparently that is the only price some people will pay for anything.. I get people complaining about the price $80 for an official HP power supply for their laptop.. and next question is.. do you have a universal one that is cheaper? which you would be paying about the same price for.. and btw BEST Buy sells it for $90 on their website.

10) They underpay their employees and over work them
*** and you complain when we are getting paid for helping you.. and btw, I do not feel overworked one bit anymore.. since they got rid of the stupid overtime we were doing..

11) They don't match their employees 401k contribution
*** wish they would match some.. :(

12) They have promised their employees $1M Dollar retirement plan if they stick around for more than 15 years, but no one has ever gotten it that I know.
*** because noone under the plan has reached it yet.. some will soon though. But I don't count that as part of my retirement plan to begin with.

13) Many alternative stores offerr same pricing or lower than Fry's without paying their employees commission.
*** you make it sound like a bad thing.. atleast we will be willing to help you because we can get paid for helping you more. and if you are smart about it.. you'll know how to work commision-paid sales to your advantage to get better help.

14) Its very hard to take advantage of any Fry's Warranty's due to many things not being covered and service employees giving you the run around.
*** Same story, any place including MFG's warranties..

15) Research the internet and you will find many websites like this one where employees and customers complain about the retailer.
*** apparently you haven't searched for anti-Best Buy's websites which are numerous and completely active in regards to complaints. More so than these Fry's ones.

17) Bait and switch operations
*** any ad is a bait and switch.. They bait you into the store in hopes that you may see something you like better. and if you come the last day of the ad 15 minutes before close, you shouldn't expect finding a very good priced ad item.

18) Misleading customers with false prices and specs in the ads and saying Fry's isn't resposnible , I mean come on who has as many typos and false prices more than Fry's.
*** I have seen a lot but I never picked up a Best Buy ad to check their mistakes.. but I hate these mistakes as much as anyone else because I have to deal with the customers who yell and complain about it to me, when there is nothing I can do about it.

19) Employees move up in the company based on who they know and their relationship not on their knowledge or how long they have worked for the company.
*** It's a slippery slope.. Because any business is going to promote you on who you know and how they like you. The other hard part is when you have a lot of knowledge you get bogged down by actually answering questions of customers and other associates keeping you away from hitting numbers.

20) No employee discounts in the cafe and no discounts on sale items.
*** There is discounts on sale items if the cost is 10% lower than price.. though sometimes they do tricking math with it.. but often times the sale price is cheaper than the "employee" price.

21) Employees lie about specs, return policy and what the warranty covers just to close a sale.
***Then stay away from the lying sales people.. actually talk and buy stuff from the people who know stuff instead of those who know how to sale. If you have to ask another salesperson question and they answer it for you, perhaps you should be buying it from them, no? Find someone straight forward..

23) The Fry's credit card application has security flaws some of which saves your credit and personal info so another applicant can see it using "Auto-Fill" and a big security flaw which allows anyone to press the back button upon approval/denial of their application to access the previous persons personal information including Name, Address, SSN# and any credit card info you submited for credit verificaiton.
*** auto-complete I can see... the back button well that is just from stupid people leaving the last page up instead of closing window like they should be doing.

25) The employees are required to stock the store at night even if it means working longer hours than you are scheduled to work.
*** they havent done this for a year now or so.

26) No overnight stocking crew - thats why alot of stuff isn't stocked or in the right spot.
*** it isn't stocked in the right spot because of lazy salespeople(top guns I'm looking at you) who just place things anywhere and management not saying or doing anything about it because "they make them money" mm because they pull this crap.

27) Employees are hardly ever thanked for their work only when they are doing bad or need to be written up.
*** depends on the management you have... we get thanked.

29) A open door policy which is very uncomfortable to use.
*** is any open door policy comfortable?

30) Unfresh food in the cafe and mostly microwaved.
*** Then don't eat there.

31) Bad selection/Unhealthy selection of snacks and food in the employee room and vending machines.
**what vending machines? lol I miss them. :)

32) I have never officially seen anyone clean, scrub and sanitize the bathrooms.
*** well the night janitors do.. hopefully.

33) Intoxicated/Druggie Employes
*** oh they are everywhere.. don't kid yourself..

34) Fry's hires the weirdest employees
*** ???? mmmm i guess there should be a law against hiring weird people.

35) 30 Minutes to wait in line to return something
*** thats why you don't come by and return stuff on weekends.. or right after most people get off work.

37) Employees have to go online to express their problems because they are affraid of retaliation from their supervisors.
*** any place... any place..just substitute drinks at bar with going online.

39) Employee paychecks are messed up missing commision or hours.
*** i haven't had any problems with mine.. except last black friday's hours

40) The cashiers don't know what they are doing most of the time and take more time than normal with problems.
*** i wouldn't say it's the cashiers.. newer cashiers yes.

42) If employees are not happy they are less likely to give good service.
*** and also if they aren't ask stupid questions or the same question over and over again we'd give better service.. some people just can't be helped.

44) Many CAL OSHA Violations including pallets on the floor.
*** empty ones? or just pallets in general?

45) Many of the brands Fry's has are bad quality and do not always work properly: AirLink, GQ, BTC, Emprex.
*** and yet when we tell people not to buy them, what do they do? They buy them... why? price! People are inherently stupid.

46) Fry's does not carry all brands only ones that make them the most money, they don't carry ViZio, Asus PC's, Kodak Printers etc
*** We carry a kodak printer.. and you cannot expect every store out there to carry every brand out there.

48) No janitors to clean or take care of the store instead they use cashiers.
*** we do have nighttime janitors who clean the store.. cashiers maintain it.. which is not hard.. walking around the store and picking up trash. It's part of their job... If you don't like thatpart of your job, then quit.

49) Cashiers are required to do cart runs
*** I guess courtesy clerks at grocery stores should uprise.. because that is part of their job too.. who would you like doing it?

53) Refurbished or Remanufactured items, Fry's has alot and they usually have problems and or missing parts.
We get a lot to sell yes.. And I have not seen many problems with them as of late.

54) Fry's warranties don't cover software, user error , physical damage and theft while some others company's do.
what other companies cover software? or user error? physical damage/theft just increases the price.

55) Unreliable Point Of Sale system that crashes and doesn't work most of the time.
*** it's better now.

57) Customer soda machines are cheaper than Employee soda machines.
** there are customer and employee soda machines??

58) High Employee Turnover (Employees getting fired or quitting)
** a lot just quit

72) Sale items aren't always available or in stock.
** last day/ last 15 minutes yeah we wont have it

73) If they replace your item under the warranty they won't replace it based on cost they will replace it with somethign similar.
*** yeah you buy a $3000 machine 3 years ago, you won't be getting a $3000 machine today, but one that still outperforms the one you had.

74) Defective software/movies are non returnable even though the manufacturer does offer refunds on it.
*** they are exchangeable for same item within 30 days.. if not maybe you should talk to these manufacturers that offer longer time.

75) No reciept on a return = 20 minutes and a big head and a store credit only.
*** This is why you keep receipts. You aren't going to just hand out money because so and so says they purchased it and just so happen to lose the receipt. this is why you save receipts.. it is not Fry's fault that you are too stupid to keep it.

76) They never call you back if you have a raincheck on a item you have to chase them down.
*** Geez perhaps you should be happy enough you got a raincheck.. it's not hard to call them everyweek and check.

77) Fry's tells you to deal with the manufacturer if you don't get a rebate and there is nothing they can do.
*** maybe because it is a MFG's rebate and you need to talk to the people responsible for it.

78) You have to print out your own rebates online now, what if you have no printer? Or your not computer savy
*** Kinkos.. and above ytou mentioned Fry;s wasn't eco-friendly.. and now Fry's does something that is ECO_Friendly and you complain about it.

80) You have to be treated like a theif at the door: they check your reciept and purchases before you leave.
*** once again twice.. and this is often to make sure cashier/sales people give you the right item. I mean yesterday someone almost went home with a cheaper laptop because some idiot grabbed the wrong one.. it was caught at the door.

89) In order for a price match to happen the other store must have the item in stock and available or else you will not get the price match.
*** Yes we are not going to price match because you could not buy such ad item from Best Buy. We do not carry extra stock for them.

93) Employees lie about the included warranty from the manufacturer some products come with up to 3 years manufacturers warranty and employees say its only 90 days.
*** some sales people.. some... only few items come with 3-yr limited... some only have 1 year limited. which in some cases is only 90-days parts/labor..

94) Fry's credit card can not be used anywhere but Fry's limiting its use.
*** yeah you go ahead and get Best Buy's high interest rate visa/mc

95) Warranty prices compared to other retailers is very high.
*** Actually.. it's cheaper than a lot of others... cheaper than best buys..

96) Pushy sales people
*** then don't buy something just because a sales person tells you too.

98) Restrooms may be closed or not accessible because of loss prevention trying to capture someone stealing. The is very inconvienent.
*** blame thieves... not Fry's Remember than thieves raise the prices that honest people pay.

99) Lack of woman working at Fry's - maybe a sexual discrimination?
*** or the fact that the electronics field is dominated by guess who? Men!

anyways.. everything is relative to any situtaion in which you experienced.. sometimes ytou have good sometimes you have bad.

Interesting, but...
If you file, does Fry's Electronics put your name in a little red book? Basically, would our illustrious employer know whether or not a certain individual participated in this suit?

If not, surely they would get ideas when you request documentation showing which weeks you've earned overtime. I doubt anyone has complete records dating back to when they were first employed. Unfortunately, said documentation is required for eligibility in the suit.

How will they calculate one's share of the booty?

$3,140,000
- LAWYER FEES
- ADMINISTRATION FEES
- CLASS REPRESENTATIVES
/ DIVIDED BY THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE WHO PARTICIPATE IN THE SETTLEMENT
= Total you will get

I just noticed it says on the form that after all the fees for lawyers etc the remaining balance will be $1,778,834 which in my opinion is not very much.

Just want to throw in a lot of the items you posted are dependent on the employees. "If you don't know your stuff, why are you working here?" is the question I ask for the newcomers. "It was a very easy job to get and I have no other skills to work anywhere else" is the general response I get. So what more can you expect from lazy grunts?

Sometimes you get those badass employees that are very helpful and push sales through the roof; sometimes you get lazy asses who sit behind the loading dock all day until their shift is over (and "somehow" gets promoted before the prior group).

based on this list, and the ass kicking rebuttal from m_tux, I would much rather work at fry's than OD. If the pay and commissions are a little better, it would blow OD out of the water. Same CS BS, same stocking and ad issues, same equipment and training issues. If I could get over 30 hours a week, I would move to Texas just to get a job at Fry's. f--k office depot!

While I wouldn't ever work at Fry's again I don't think it is as bad as the author makes it out to be. Most of the 100 are inaccurate or exaggerations. The POS system is bad, the returns lines are longer than they ought to be, some of the sales people are too pushy, but beyond that a lot of the criticisms could be made for virtually all of their competitors.
worm

Yeah the POS is costing Fry's a lot of business and salesmen have to be pushy so they can rush you into the long lines. FIFO

2. Fix the sort by commission.
3. Make it not suck so hard.

Sasquatch: 1. It shouldn't take 53 seconds to add a customer.

Here's the fix for the long new customer add... Always keep 2 POS screens open on the terminal. Go ahead and make your quote.. If customer's # is in the system, Great! If not, open the other pos screen on the computer and create the customer there.. While that is creating, you can switch over to the other POS screen and enter the customer's phone number.. It should pop up, while the other one is still going store to store creating a new customer.

That being said, it is a pain in the rear.. but as long as you can open 2 pos screens on the same terminal, you are set. I just wish they'd batch create them at the end of the night for the other stores... or just have a seperate machine dedicated to doing it..

Best Buy doesnt have good prices and they carry shitty computer brands like Dell, Gateway, and Asus.

Dell and Gateway are sh*tty? Since when? Since Michael Dell came back, Dell's QC has improved. Same goes for Gateway. FWIW, I''ve used Gateway computers since the early 1990's and never had an issue with them. I'd imagine you think Sony and HP are good brands, or a Frys' "custom-built"?

I'm interested as to WHY you think Dell and Gateway are bad? ...And what you thing a "good" computer manufacturer is?

I know and work with a number of IT people that own newer Dells and/or Gateways and are extremely happy with them. If you check Best Buy's website, many Dell and Gateway laptops and desktops have four and five star ratings by customers. Yes...there are lemons from each, but when the buyers of these units give them good ratings, that speaks volumes.

If you were to research this issue properly, you'd find that it will be Dell techs providing the service. Not Walmart employees. Based on this article from InformationWeek, it's being test run in the Dallas area. Given the apparent high volume of Dell sales that WalMart has, they're filling a need.

I'd rather trust my computer to a Dell tech at WalMart, than one of the alledged tech's at Fry's.

boycott_frys: 100 Reason why you should NOT shop at Fry's Electronics Retail Stores

1) Untrained Employees - Employees are litterly just thrown out on the sales floor with no prooper training other than some stupid videos about not touching other employees boobs or penis. I HAVE TAKEN MANY CLASSES IN COLLEGE FOR COMPUTER TRAINING. SOME EMPLOYEES KNOW MORE THAN OTHERS
2) A lot of items are not in stock or not properly stocked. THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOU HAVE SEVERAL THOUSAND CUSTOMERS COME TO A STORE.
3) Unfriendly associates, who are very un-familiar with the products and just care about making their commision. THEY HAVE FAMILIES TO FEED, AND NOT ALL ARE ASSHOLES
4) Many employees do not speak very good english HAHA WTF?! MANY OR A FEW?
5) Rude Management AGAIN, IT DEPENDS ON THE PERSON.
6) The Fry's Card and its benifits suck, no rewards and it only gives you 0% APR on very high profit items for the store. ITS A STORE, THEIR JOB IS TO MAKE MONEY, NOT PLEASE EVERYONE. YOU'D DO THE SAME IF YOU OWNED THE STORE
7) Fry's treats its customers and employees like theifs with every purchase. FOR THE SIMPLE FACT THAT MANY EMPLOYEES STOLE BEFORE.
8) Employees asking you over and over for help just so they can make some money off of you. THEY HAVE FAMILIES TO FEED, AND THIS IS A BETTER OPTION OTHER THAN SELLING DRUGS.
9) The service warranties and other services they sell you are over priced and not necessary, the employees make alot of money off these items. SOME ARE NECESSARY AND HELP OUT A LOT. EMPLOYEES ONLY MAKE 15% OF THE COST AND AGAIN, THEY HAVE FAMILIES TO FEED.
10) They underpay their employees and over work them NOW THEY UNDERPAY THEM? SHOW ME A JOB THAT WILL PAY ME $500+ WEEKLY WITH A FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE AND NO COLLEGE DEGREE.
11) They don't match their employees 401k contribution IM PART TIME.
12) They have promised their employees $1M Dollar retirement plan if they stick around for more than 15 years, but no one has ever gotten it that I know. THAT YOU KNOW
13) Many alternative stores offerr same pricing or lower than Fry's without paying their employees commission. BUT MOST OF THEIR EMPLOYEES KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT A PRODUCT. IF YOU CAN FIND IT CHEAPER SOMEWHERE ELSE, BUY IT THERE.
14) Its very hard to take advantage of any Fry's Warranty's due to many things not being covered and service employees giving you the run around. IF YOU BREAK IT, WHY SHOULD WE COVER IT. WE COVER WEAR AND TEAR.
15) Research the internet and you will find many websites like this one where employees and customers complain about the retailer. EVERY RETAIL STORE HAS PEOPLE THAT HATE IT.
16) Fry's reputation with the BBB is not good BIG BLACK BITCH?
17) Bait and switch operations IT SUCKS, BUT THE STORE NEEDS TO MAKE MONEY.
18) Misleading customers with false prices and specs in the ads and saying Fry's isn't resposnible , I mean come on who has as many typos and false prices more than Fry's. ILL AGREE WITH YOU ON THIS ONE. :face-monkey:
19) Employees move up in the company based on who they know and their relationship not on their knowledge or how long they have worked for the company. HAPPENS AT MOST COMPANIES.
20) No employee discounts in the cafe and no discounts on sale items. THE STORE IS LOSING MONEY ON SOME SALE ITEMS, WHY SHOULD THEY GO EVEN LOWER?
21) Employees lie about specs, return policy and what the warranty covers just to close a sale. AGAIN, EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT, NOT ALL LIE.
22) Managers threaten employees about their jobs if they don't push Fry's Cards, Warranties, Wireless Installs and other services. THE STORE NEEDS TO MAKE MONEY, YOU BECOME A MANAGER AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DONT PUSH YOUR EMPLOYEES.
DOESNT WORK AT MY STORE
24) Fry's doesn't hire extra help during the holiday season instead they make employees work 16-20 hour shifts. SO WHAT? THEY PAY YOU FOR IT.
25) The employees are required to stock the store at night even if it means working longer hours than you are scheduled to work. LEGALLY THEY CAN DO THIS AS LONG AS THEY PAY YOU FOR IT.
26) No overnight stocking crew - thats why alot of stuff isn't stocked or in the right spot. ILL GIVE YOU THIS ONE.
27) Employees are hardly ever thanked for their work only when they are doing bad or need to be written up. ILL GIVE YOU THIS ONE TOO.
28) No company discounts with companys like Sprint, AT&T, Verizon or Bally's or other Corporate Company. SO WHAT? JUST BECAUSE OTHERS DO IT DOESNT MEAN FRYS HAS TO. FRYS GIVES YOU 50% OFF OF YOUR BILL IF YOU SIGN UP WITH HELIO.
29) A open door policy which is very uncomfortable to use. ILL GIVE YOU THIS ONE TOO.
30) Unfresh food in the cafe and mostly microwaved. ILL ALSO GIVE YOU THIS ONE. I WOULDNT MIND MICROWAVED FOOD, BUT THE PRICES MAKE THE FOOD APPEAR AS IF IT IS FRESH.
31) Bad selection/Unhealthy selection of snacks and food in the employee room and vending machines. MANY PRODUCTS ON THE SHELVES ARE HEALTHY. DONT PURCHASE FROM THE VENDING MACHINES.
32) I have never officially seen anyone clean, scrub and sanitize the bathrooms. THEN YOU MUST BE CONSTIPATED. OUR RESTROOMS ARE CLEANED HOURLY.
33) Intoxicated/Druggie Employes HAPPENS AT MANY PLACES TOO.
34) Fry's hires the weirdest employees YEAH, THEY HIRED YOU.
35) 30 Minutes to wait in line to return something ON WEEKENDS WHEN ITS BUSY. ON WEEKDAYS ITS A 0 MINUTE WAIT LINE IDIOT.
36) Not enough employees in the Service Department and long lines and hassles. ILL GIVE YOU THIS ONE.
37) Employees have to go online to express their problems because they are affraid of retaliation from their supervisors. NOT ENTIRELY TRUE. I KNOW I CAN SPEAK TO MY SUPERVISORS WHEN THE NEED ARISES.
38) No Human Resources department only Audit and ther are a pain to deal with. HR DEPARTMENT WOULD BE THE SAME AS AUDIT.
39) Employee paychecks are messed up missing commision or hours. LEARN HOW TO CLOCK IN IDIOT.
40) The cashiers don't know what they are doing most of the time and take more time than normal with problems. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. STOP STEREOTYPING.
41) Great service starts from the top which includes department managers, store managers and home office and the owners. HAHA WTF??
42) If employees are not happy they are less likely to give good service. TRUE. IM HAPPY, I GIVE GREAT SERVICE.
43) Internal conflict of interest (Supervisors & Employees dating each other) SHIT HAPPENS EVERYWHERE.
44) Many CAL OSHA Violations including pallets on the floor. TRUE.
45) Many of the brands Fry's has are bad quality and do not always work properly: AirLink, GQ, BTC, Emprex. THOSE BRANDS ARE PRIVATELY OWNED.
46) Fry's does not carry all brands only ones that make them the most money, they don't carry ViZio, Asus PC's, Kodak Printers etc BECAUSE THEY DONT MAKE MONEY IDIOT. IF YOU HAD A JOB THAT DIDNT PAY YOU, WOULD YOU CONTINUE WORKING THERE? YOU ARE STUPID AS CAN BE.
47) Fry's made a mistake by forcing employees to use a draw system then removed it and fired all the employees that were in the draw. Shows how much they care. THEY DIDNT FIRE ANYONE AT MY STORE.
48) No janitors to clean or take care of the store instead they use cashiers. WE HAVE SEVERAL JANITORS.
49) Cashiers are required to do cart runs MANY OTHER STORES SUCH AS RALPHS DO THIS TOO. YOU WANT THE CARTS TO RETURN THEMSELVES BACK?? LOL YOU MUST BE AN IDIOT.
50) Employees who work in receving have to work in hot conditions with no air conditioning. THEY HAVE AC AT MY STORE.
51) Vandilism in the parking lot and LP not helping. LP'S DONT HAVE EYES IN THE BACK OF THEIR HEADS.
52) Open box products have a small 5% discount but usually have something wrong or missing from them. USUALLY??? HOW ABOUT RARELY.
53) Refurbished or Remanufactured items, Fry's has alot and they usually have problems and or missing parts. SORRY, WRONG AGAIN.
54) Fry's warranties don't cover software, user error , physical damage and theft while some others company's do. THEN GO WORK FOR THOSE COMPANIES.
55) Unreliable Point Of Sale system that crashes and doesn't work most of the time. ILL GIVE YOU THAT ONE.
56) Fry's is very un eco-friendly they use thousands of sheets of paper on quotes and receipts. ILL GIVE YOU THIS ONE TOO.
57) Customer soda machines are cheaper than Employee soda machines. NO, OUR SODA MACHINES ARE FOR CUSTOMERS AND EMPLOYEES. AND IF THE CUSTOMERS ARE CHEAPER, PURCHSE A SODA THERE IDIOT.
58) High Employee Turnover (Employees getting fired or quitting) ALL RETAIL STORES HAVE THIS PROBLEM IDIOT.
59) Boring weekly training (V-Con) THEN FIND ANOTHER JOB IDIOT.
60) Employees having to paint, clean the inside out side of the store. ITS A TASK, DO IT IDIOT.
61) No reimbursment on uniforms. ILL GIVE YOU THAT ONE.
62) Uncomfortable uniforms for working in isles, downstocking and doing schematics. IM COMFORTABLE.
63) No organization in the whare house. LEARN HOW TO SPELL IDIOT.
64) It takes forever to find someone to help you get products for the customer in the warehouse. FOREVER ISNT A NUMBER IDIOT.
65) Demos dont' always work ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO HAVE 100% OF THE HUNDREDS OF DEMOS IN THE STORE TO WORK AT THE SAME TIME. CUSTOMERS FUCK EM UP IDIOT.
66) Buying demos aren't always complete NO SHIT, THEY ARE PURCHASED AS IT IDIOT.
67) Buying a used or demo unit is only 5%-10% off the regular price. DEPENDS ON SUPERVISOR. IVE SEEN DEMOS GO FOR 50% OFF.
68) Not Properly trained management. DEPENDS ON THE COACH.
69) So hard to get to a live person and not a operator on the phone. OPERATOR AND LIVE PEOPLE ARE THE SAME THING. FRYS IS ONE OF THE LAST COMPANIES THAT OFFER LIVE PEOPLE TO ANSWER PHONES. TARGET, K MART, ETC ALL HAVE MACHINES THAT ANSWER IDIOT.
70) 15 Day/30 Day Return Policy's - Walmart, Costco and SamsClub offer up to 90 days return policy. THEN GO PURCHASE FROM THEIR STORES IDIOT.
71) Your looking for an item and ask an employee they point somewhere or redirect you to the wrong place. DEPENDS ON EMPLOYEE IDIOT. NOT EVERYONE DOES THAT.
72) Sale items aren't always available or in stock. AGAIN, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE WHEN YOU HAVE TO ATTEND THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS.
73) If they replace your item under the warranty they won't replace it based on cost they will replace it with somethign similar. WTF?
74) Defective software/movies are non returnable even though the manufacturer does offer refunds on it. OF COURSE NON RETURNABLE, BUT WE WILL INSTANT EXCHANGE IT IDIOT.
75) No reciept on a return = 20 minutes and a big head and a store credit only. OBVIOUSLY, WE HAVE TO LOOK UP THE PURCHASE IDIOT.
76) They never call you back if you have a raincheck on a item you have to chase them down. THEY DONT ASK TO BE CALLED BACK. CUSTOMER USUALLY CALL BACK IDIOT.
77) Fry's tells you to deal with the manufacturer if you don't get a rebate and there is nothing they can do. THEIR REALLY ISNT ANYTHING FRYS CAN DO. THE MANUFACTURER HAS THE REBATES, NOT FRYS IDIOT.
78) You have to print out your own rebates online now, what if you have no printer? Or your not computer savy THEN YOU ARENT PART OF THE 21ST CENTURY IDIOT.
79) The line to pay sometimes can be very long and can lead to several hours if the system is down. SOMETIMES, JUST LIKE EVERY STORE IDIOT.
80) You have to be treated like a theif at the door: they check your reciept and purchases before you leave. THANKS TO OTHER EMPLOYEES AND CUSTOMERS THAT STEAL IDIOT.
81) You can usually see sales people fighting over sales and talking about commision on the sales floor and even in front of customers. DEPENDS ON EMPLOYEE IDIOT.
82) Employees talk in other languages amongest themself instead of english. YOU ARE A SUPERVISOR, WRITE THEM UP IDIOT.
83) Employees eating and drinking on the sales floor very rude. HAHAHAHHA WE DO THIS ALL THE TIME.

AyaHu: Wow people who stand up for dell sadden me.

In the corporate world, there are very few choices - Dell, HP, maybe Toshiba for laptops. FWIW, Dell's QC has improved dramatically over the past year. There was a span of about three years (2004-07) where their desktop workstations and laptops kept crapping out. The firm I work for switched from Dell to HP because of that.

The reality is that Dell's current product offerings are quite good. I'm interested - what would YOU recommend in place of Dell, and why?

I own nothing but Dell laptops in my house. However, I do not own the consumer brands (Inspiron). I only buy the business models (Precision and Latitudes). The consumer brands aren't built well and have problems. The business models are rock stable and have lasted me many years.

I haven't read anything about why people don't like them. The only thing I have seen is that they suck. Explain why they suck.

I have owned Sony (both a laptop and Desktop) and the hardware in the Sony wasn't that great. The laptop felt fragile. It was a good laptop and desktop at the time, but I wouldn't buy another one because of the small form factor of the laptop. The desktop was hard to work on and the design was ridiculous. That doesn't make them suck, it just means that I wouldn't buy another one because it doesn't fit my lifestyle of banging shit around and replacing parts on my own.

Dell techs are hit or miss, I would agree with that, but I am my own tech (certified) and do all of my own repairs. Some of the guys that I have met are really good and some are not. Kind of like Fry's employees.

So, what computers do you all suggest since you are hell-bent on hating a certain brand!?! If you talk to enough people, everything sucks and at the same time, everything is awesome.

I got about half-way through the list and couldn't read it anymore. Some of the things you have to say, unfortunately, are true. However, I would like to point out that if you're going to complain about the poor qualities of the employees, it would help to check your spelling and grammar beforehand. That said, I'd like to point out that some of the things you have to say are store-specific, some are generic and applicable to every retail environment, and some truly are accurate. From personal experience, I know that there are times when I have been unhappy with my job. That's going to happen with any job, though, and yeah, I get over it and go to work the next day. No matter what your job is, there's going to be stuff that you don't like. It's human nature to complain. Now, the legitimate complaints, like health and safety violations, those are things that should ideally be brought to a higher authority. By the way, I completely agree with #34, though I don't think it really should be there. After all, I'm a weird employee, and I'd like to think that doesnt make me a bad person.

By the way, I have found that most of the really good employees are the ones who take possession of what they are selling. I am constantly checking up on what I am responsible for, because I know someone will come along and mess it up. If we had a night-side stocking crew, I'd never know where half my stuff went in between when I left for the day to my next shift. It's bad enough to watch a customer come along and tear apart several hours of hard work. If it were an employee, I would have to seriously contemplate maiming people for messing up my stuff. And with the P.O.S. crapping out, yeah, it sucks. Do you think I like it? Do cashiers like writing manuals? Do salesmen like writing manual quotes? No! No one likes it when the system goes down. Shut up and deal, or go somewhere else.

With price matching, I don't think you understand. The purpose is to provide a customer with incentive to come here first, rather than go to other stores. So, of course no one will match a price if the store with the ad is sold out. If you can't get it elsewhere, there's no incentive to shop with us rather than just get a rain check from them. And speaking of rain checks, I have two comments: 1) if you bother to get a rain-check, you have to call the store for a stock check. Thanks to recent identity-theft precautions, it no longer displays anything other than a name on a quote, so how are we supposed to contact you? And, 2) no, we will never offer rain checks on another store's ad, on a hot item that is limit 1 per customer and never on ad (things like the Wii), or anything you just happen to want. If we have it, we can find a way for you to get it, but I'm not bending over backwards for someone just because they drove five miles to get to the store. I drive further than that just to get there every day, and before you start saying I get compensated with a paycheck, note that the least I have paid to fill up my tank in the last three months is almost $60.00. One of my co-workers gets up a 5 a.m. to be at the store by 7, and he still doesn't make it on time every day.

16 - Fry's somehow has an excellent rating with the BBB...or at least those in the LA and Orange counties:

40 - Not all cashiers are dumb and stupid, though I've done some good impersonations at 8 am.

30 - As for the druggies? Hands off my "candy" and you'll live.

AyaHu, I must respectfully disagree with you as well. My Dell rocks, never had a problem with it.

I'm telling EVERYONE I know not to shop at Fry's because of the way they treat their employees.

When an associate offers a Fry's Credit Card to a customer, he/she has NO control over whether or not the person fills out a credit card application without force. Therefore, the associate SHOULD NOT BE PUNISHED, SUSPENDED, FIRED OR EVEN TALKED TO about not having enough Fry's Credit Card applications. I have had it with this company and WILL NOT ever again step foot in that store unless it's to tell customers and prospective employees why they shouldn't shop/work at Fry's. There is ABSOLUTELY NO benefit to applying for a Fry's card in the software department as nothing qualifies for the no interest for 12 months offer. THEREFORE, NO one wants to apply for the card.

I have had it with this store and want EVERYONE to know about this absurd and unethical policy. Keep spreading the word and boycott Fry's!

It's also funny how they don't believe you either that you ask every single customer and they say no. The people in vcon say all you have to do is ask, but then your managers say all you have do is sell your soul just to get one and to sell your first born to get a second one. It's ridiculous. And they alway compare us to macys and target. "Oh when ever I go there they always ask" Yeah but are they probing, harassing and taunting you to sign up for one? NO!! I have never been harassed like they want us to harrass customers at any of those stores. Fry's really needs to sort out their priorities, especially when you are threating write ups, suspenions and even termination.

And its also how you approach your associates to get one. Every cashier I asked to get a frys card I never threatend them. I just asked nicely, got a little dramatic but in a comedic way so that they didn't feel the like a horrible person. At least if I asked them to get a fry's card they would have a more positive approach, and wouldn't go out there all bummed and worried about losing their job. 80% of the time they came back with one. And if they didn't at least I told them "I know you tried, so maybe next time" Then they would get one next time they went out to do Fry's cards.

I haven't been on in a while, and even though I am not always a fan of my own place of employment I would like to offer up a few nuggets in it's defense.

1) If you are going to bother coming up with a list of grievances, and want to be taken seriously, please check spelling and grammar before you post. Otherwise you look just like everyone else who walks up to me in the middle of the software department and asks where the "electronics" section is.

2) Many of your complaints are employee/store dependent. Things change from location to location, and while I hear a lot of complaints from customers about how we don't have something in stock, or some jerk over in AV gave them the run-around, please remember that employees are people too, and we have feelings. If you spend ten minutes complaining about how some other department sucks, and then tell me that you're never going to shop at Fry's again, how can you then expect me to give you excellent customer service? That's just plain dumb.

3) Some people simply don't know what they're asking for. I watched a white woman scream "racist" at a black supervisor because he told her the new expansion for World of Warcraft wasn't due out until next year. If you believe her, we wouldn't sell it to her because she's white. Not because the estimated ship date for Cataclysm is November 2010. Some employees are stupid, yes. This happens. People are dumb. But remember that customers can be just as stupid. For example, why yell at the software supervisor because you couldn't figure out where the proof of purchase was on your box? Or because you went to a porn site and were surprised to end up with malware on your computer? Is it our fault? No. Nor is it our fault that Sony no longer manufactures a backwards-compatible Playstation 3, or that Valve won't release Left 4 Dead on the Wii. Or that in a huge metropolitan area you, the customer, expect the only store in the state to be able to furnish copies of the new Star Trek movie on Blu-Ray to everyone who walks in the door when we had it on sale for $20? The customer is not always right.

4) Checking the receipt at the door... Yet you just complained about untrained employees. Personally, I research the price on things I intend to purchase once they get past a certain dollar amount, but some people just assume things and then complain when they get to the door. Would you rather walk out the door having paid $300 for something that costs $50 because a trainee hit the wrong button? Or with the wrong model of TV or laptop? Its a minor inconvenience, and it helps to prevent mistakes.

5) I do agree that not all employees are paid what they are worth. For those departments who haven't been switched over to straight commission, there has been a marked change in pay. For some, it has gone up, and for others it has gone down. Perhaps the only reason this deserves mention, though, is because it is totally impossible for the average employee to figure out what they will be making in a week. I know supervisors who worked 6 days and had a take home pay of less than $200, and sales associates who worked 2 days and took home over $1000, so there are clear problems with the pay structure.

On the other hand, it does give you a chance to directly effect what you are paid.

6) Fry's sells for profit. So does every other business in a capitalist society. Do you think that car dealerships or real estate agents don't sell for profit? Look at what's happening in the economy right now if you think that Fry's is an evil money making machine. I'm sure there are some suicidal stock brokers who would love to tell you about selling for profit. And don't even get me started on the gas companies. My point is that everyone is looking for profit, from the biggest down to little old you.

Don't think for one minute you can get me to believe that you take every penny you are paid that doesn't cover cost of living and donate it to a charity. No, you buy yourself things, you go to bars, you take trips, and enjoy that extra money. Guess what? Extra money is just personal profit, and I'm sure there are thousands of people out there who are getting foreclosed upon who would love a piece of that.

7) The Fry's Card. Ah, quite possibly the most controversial piece of plastic offered by Fry's. Employees hate it, because we get yelled at about them. Customers hate it because the interest rate is so high. Yet for some reason people still sign up for the thing. I, personally, have never liked the Fry's Card, but that's because I don't like being yelled at to force credit down someone's throat. That's a personal issue, and one I don't think will ever be resolved until I quit. On the other hand, sometimes it can be helpful. If a person with low income uses it to finance a washer/dryer, or a fridge, to replace one that broke, that gives them a chance to get back on their feet without succumbing to the vultures that circle in times like that. And remember, at least Fry's OWNS the bank that finances the card, so as long as the company is in business, the card will still be valid. Unlike Best Buy, who ran their financing through two different banks, and now are suffering the consequences because one of them went under and was bought out by a different bank unwilling to support their financing plan.

8) Warranties. I work in software, so the only thing we offer warranties on are game systems. This means my knowledge of them and what is/is not covered is limited. I would like to say, though, that there are times when it is just plain stupid not to buy a warranty. When the X-Box 360 first came out, I offered the warranty to every customer. For two years, you could replace your hardware if it broke. Seems fairly simple and straight forward. And people turned me down. A lot. But those of us who have played games for years are intimately familiar with the wonderful escapades of the Playstation 2 and it's disk-read errors. So, the warranty was like hedging your bets. And who did I see coming back a year or two later after the whole "Red Ring of Death" fiasco? The same people who turned me down in the beginning. Now, Microsoft was nice enough to offer people an out, and they would repair/replace red ringed systems up to three years from date of manufacture. But it was nice to see those people and offer them a little "I told you so" with their new X-Box.

9) The line in returns is too long. Well, if you're returning something on Sunday, you are an idiot if you think there won't be some kind of line. Studies have proved that Sunday is the one day of the week that the most people have off. So why wouldn't there be more people there? Also, please remember that sometimes there's a line because the person who got to the counter is making a scene. Screaming at a returns clerk because they can't take back opened software, or because the warranty seal on a laptop somehow managed to grow air bubbles in the two days it was owned, will inevitably slow down the line. Because then the person in charge has to get called up, and they have to hem and haw, and call the department. Then someone from the department has to come up and look at it. Then everyone has to confer on how to deal with the situation.

It would be far easier if people would just read the damn return policy and refer to that when trying to deal with a return. But everyone thinks that he or she is special and entitled to an exception because...a) "I spend thousands here every week", as if the more money they give the store, the more we should give them back; b) "I just bought it yesterday", as if theft/fraud can't happen in less than twenty-four hours; or c) "You sold me this product, so you should take it back", as if Fry's (the RETAILER) can effect the development, construction, quality, efficacy, or integrity of something made by another company (the MANUFACTURER). As I point out to people, we're the end of the chain. By the time a product gets to us, all that's left for us to do is sell it. We can't change it, we can't rebuild it, we can't make it work like it says on the box if it doesn't. WE'RE NOT THE ONES WHO MADE IT!

10) For every cloud, there is a silver lining. I know I mentioned this before, and I will mention it again because I think it's that important. Every situation, every employee, every store, is different. I've had bad days, where I haven't given very good service because something set me off. I've had good days, where I've been on a roll and managed to make it through a day without fake-smiling once. Change is a part of human nature, and you can't categorize wholesale based upon supposition. Just because someone in Dallas pissed a lady off doesn't mean that Renton pissed a lady off for the exact same reason on the exact same day.

I have moments where I truly hate working for Fry's. I have been working for Fry's, as a company, for five years now. I will keep working for Fry's until they fire me, or they drop my pay to the point where I won't be able to support my family. This holiday season has been rough on everyone, customer and employee alike. But I wouldn't work for Wal-mart if my life depended on it. I wouldn't work for Best Buy if they offered me a store to manage. All things considered, I work here, and will continue to work here, because of the people I work with and the customers I work for. I have some long-standing customers who seek help from me specifically whenever they shop. I have some very good friendships with the people I work with. And even though every now and then Fry's does something that I think is absolute crap, they are still just a small fish in the ocean, and their power to influence my life is negligible. There are some good people at Fry's, people who would be shit-outta-luck without the jobs that this company has offered them.

Don't condemn the whole thing just because of some bad experiences. Then you're just throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

If you don't piss of associates you won't get crappy service...It is how you present yourself is what's going to make your experience at fry's a good one or a bad one....Don't ask dumb questions..Who goes to fry's not knowing what they want? Apparently a lot of people....But if you are a normal human being it will be common sense that you research your stuff online or in your local newspaper stand....The benefits of working at fry's electronics...you can go to your lunch break and have a few beers and your supervisors won't bother you. They only care about you hitting your projection and having positive G.P. if you are a Salesman....If you are an Accessory thats even better...because you are not a human being in there eyes...you don't make money like salesman. You don't help the supervisors...All you do is put product where they belong....and do schematics.. So you can probably hide in the break room for an hour and they won't say anything to u :) that was a benefit of working for fry's electronics...Or you can be on X when the store is close and they wouldn't care :P...Just as long as the Assistant Store manager doesn't close that day...you are good to do whatever the fuck you want..Cheers

If you really need a job then go for it. I mean, if you really really need a job in today's economy and willing to take the punishment then go for it. I worked at Fry's for a year and a half while I was finishing school and it just wasn't for me. I hated a large number of people who worked there. Fry's is not a bad company to work for if the fellow employees weren't such jerks.
