TJ? I'd hate to tell you about the intelligence report that I just read on Tijuana. Think an American is safe going there? Think again...

Tijuana is dangerous some kid of a famous nationwide retail chain owner was targeted by the drug cartels. They pumped like 100 bullets into him while he was in school.

I agree with the OP. Frys is the best.

    Here's what I like:

    1. They stand behind rebates. If the manu goes out of business, Frys still pays. Few others do that.
    2. The home office responds to complaints about the stores. I even got a letter from Mike Millar (signed by Randy Fry?) in response to my complaint. And the store made good on it.
    3. My home store (San Diego) even took a Christmas gift as a return (store credit; full price) even though I did not have a receipt. AFAIK, no one else does that.
    4. Huge selection. You can get almost anything electronic there.
    5. (Sometimes) great deals.

If anyone knows of a better store for electronics, please tell us. Esp if they can match or beat these parameters.

As a fan of electronics I have always loved Fry's. People who are ignorant of technology may be frustrated by salespeople who are not experts on everything in the universe of electronics or cannot explain fundamental concepts of reality to clueless patrons who refuse to listen.

That said, Adelitas Bar is the place to go in TJ. There were heavily armed cops guarding the place the last time I went; I assume to protect the many tourists who cross the border to visit this major TJ landmark. The piles of garbage in the middle of the street and buildings that look like they would fall down if you pushed them too hard, made me glad to head back to the California suburbs at the end of the vacation.

It would be easy for these "clueless patrons" to assume that someone who works in the computer department at Fry's knows something about computers and the products they sell. Instead, they're often greeted by an associate who knows very little.

FWIW, many of the mexican police are on the take and work in cahoots with the cartels. Think you're safe there? Guess again.

Never been to TJ, from what I understand it's a party town which doesn't really interest me. There are other places in Mexico I'd like to go, more for the scenery than anything else. I hear they have some pretty cool caves down there; it's been far too long since I've been spelunking.

FWIW, many cities in Mexico are the same. And...read down a few paragraphs in the article about the fun in Tijuana.
