Fountain valley

Our hours are being cut most departments are only part time unless you're a "specialist" which is just a demoted manager. We were recently informed that we will be longer be transferring items to or from other stores. When we receive new products the amount has gone down drastically. It looks like frys is dead.

I walked through the Fountain Valley store for the first time this year and even in the evening (~7-8) which typically tended to be the busier part of the day it looked like a ghost town. Over the last 3-4 years I have gone maybe once every 6 months or so and every time it has looked more and more abandoned. The last couple times I have gone to Microcenter I have seen more people than Fry's, which is really telling.

I can remember noticing maybe 4-5 years ago that little by little that they removed the top stock racks and little by little they have been removing racks so that there are fewer empty shelves. They have been in a slow motion going out of business sale for the last 5 years. Even a year ago there still were a couple floor stacks in FV and now half of the aisles have so few items that some you could fill in a few carts at most. I can remember working at this location back 12+ years ago and getting more new inventory in a day than several aisles have now. It looks so bad that I noticed that several sinks in the bathroom didn't work anymore and it looked only slightly better than a rundown gas station bathroom. If they don't announce that they are closing the Fountain Valley store after Christmas I will be surprised. I was surprised that I actually saw two different people I recognized that *still* worked there 12 years later. One guy was a reasonably nice guy that probably could do much better if he tried and the other was a guy who was so shady I think honestly he would try selling a a bag of crap to his mother and call it a miracle cure if it made him commission. I think not firing that shady guy a decade ago is part of the reason that Fry's location is bordering on going out of business and Microcenter only a few miles away looks like it is in much better shape to survive the retail apocalypse. The retailers that will survive have smart associates that are helpful not sharks making you feel like it is a used car lot.

In many regards I'm not surprised that the Fountain Valley Fry's and Fry's in general is bordering on failure. Their buyers seemed inept buying things almost purely upon margin not questioning whether there was good demand for it? I remember a number of items that they bought back in the day that they touted the margins, but were like trying to sell a bag of trash. i.e. most customers weren't interested and they ended up fire selling some items. They were really bad at demoing products connecting a single computer to multiple monitors at different resolutions making one or more look distorted. Instead of focusing on core items that people might need in a pinch (e.g. a POE switch for a small business) they tried to fill a lot of wants that people could easily wait to order online from NewEgg, Amazon, etc. In order to fill dying sectors (e.g. software, DVDs, etc.) they started selling garbage made for TV junk, cheap perfume, etc. that just seemed to make the store seem cluttered when they should have reduced the clutter. They would have been better honestly removing an aisle or two to make theft harder. I know that they started offering local delivery a while back to try to compete with the likes of Amazon Prime same day shipping, but in many regards it was too little too late as Amazon already built a large customer base in most of their markets years ago. There are a lot of little things that they could have done differently, but I think that big box retail is slowly dying. A couple outliers like Costco will survive, but many won't.

I had some good memories of that store, but alas it seems that the end is near for Store 7. If it isn't closed something early 2020 I will be surprised.

I think I'll never meet a more stereotypically mean manager, as amir from store 7. It baffles me how he continually got away with the way he acted. He would treat associates like shit. He would treat customers like shit. The only people I'd see him be friendly with are the ones that kissed his ass, and the now rogue(as in we haven't seen him in weeks) store manager Sam. I'm sure there's plenty of reasons as to why frys is going down, but I'm sure all the associates and customers that left frys due to this guy didn't help. If you don't believe me, go on yelp for the fountain Valley store and search the keyword "manager". You'll see plenty on this guy I assure you, you'll know it's him when people describe him as short and Arabic. Alright my rant is over. Shout out to all the normal people at the fountain Valley store, you're all great people and I hope you all get nice jobs.
